Wandered around the farm a bit this afternoon, just to see what things look like.
Here's what I saw ...
Lots of puddles,
lots of weeds - surrounding the new peach trees...
... and overtaking the sweet corn,
the cherries turning colour - yes, we're already eating them, and no, they don't taste very good yet.
Raspberries,
and peaches.
Everything is growing incredibly fast right now. The hot, sunny weather we have had recently, together with a lot of rain has made for excellent growing conditions.
On this week's agenda:
- finish pruning peaches
- finish mulching tomatoes
- stake tomatoes and sucker & tie them
- weed, weed, and then weed
- seed, seed, and then seed - the ground is so wet now that we are behind in our vegetable seeding
- begin the 4th of our weekly farmers' markets - Saturday is opening day at Georgetown.
But today is Sunday - a day to rest. And that's where I'm going!
I would like to know if and when the Bing Cherry is ready to harvest? Do you travel to a Local market with your fruit and produce? can you tell us when crops peaches plums apricots etc are ready? We live in Keswick Ont and would like to make a day trip to your area of Grimsby and surrounding area. Thanks R. White r.white777@rogers.com
